Area of improvement for Nicole

I had a quick chat with Nicole's piano teacher with regards to her peformance. Ms X recognises Nicole's ability to pick up new techniques quickly and she is probably one of her "best" students within the same age group, in this area.
However, Ms X and I also share the same view that Nicole has not been putting in enough hours to achieve a certain level of "smoothness" in some difficult pieces. This is simply due to the fact that she only practises a day before her lesson in most instances.
She could get by and still get 3 stars each (ie. excellent work) for her past pieces but with her promotion to level 3 (begining of Grade 1) since 1st June, I can foresee trouble ahead. Ms X is planning to put her up for Grade 1 exam next year and I really dont know how Nicole is going to cope at the rate she is going now. :( I hope Nicole would just do a little bit more so that I won't get a heart attack everytime I send her for her lesson :(

Sometimes kids are like that, no matter how many time mommy keep asking them to practice they won't ..... until one day something happened or being scold by teacher for the very first time then only we realised that we can actually do better :) Coz I used to be like your Nicole too when I was her age doing my grade 1 :)

Hi Contented Mom, its good get your daughter to learn the piano.
Come few years down the road you and papa will be enjoying her repetoir of songs.

Here every year there is a music contest for kids and children, and a surprisingly big percentage will be Chinese kids taking away most of the top prizes....
with Chinese kids as young as 7 with their renditions of Mozart, Beethoven, Johan Straus etc....
Its cellos, violin, pianos that the very young Chinese kids below 15 will sapu the prizes.

Best regards, Lee.

At what age did Nicole start on the piano? I have this "great ambition" of making Chloe a little pianist as young as possible hehe.. but really don't know how to teach cos she just can't follow. Sigh... (I started coaching her when she was 2+)

Hi to all, thanks for encouragement

Hi Chloe's mum,

Nicole started when she turned 4. A breeze for her intially but as she progresses, she can no longer rely on her memory to play the songs as they get more complicated :(
