Nic wanted a soft cone and we were waiting in line for our turn to place our order at Mac. I gave Nic $1 and asked her how much she would expect to get back from the counter lady. Very confidently, she answered “ 30 cents”. Then, out of the blue, L came along and asked for a soft cone too. So, I needed to give N more money. I took the $1 coin back and gave her a $2 note. The same question was asked.
Me “ So, how much should you get back now?”
To my greatest surprise, Nic answered instantaneously, without any hesitation!
Nic “60 cents”
Me “ Wow! That was quick. How did you arrive at it so quickly? “
Nic “ You gave me $1 for 1 softcone, and I will get back 30 cents. Now you give me $2 for 2 softcone, then it is just 30cents x 2 = 60 cents”
Me “ Very good. Good thinking!”
I was expecting her to do this instead “1 softcone is 70cents, 2 will be $1.40. So, $2 - $1.40 = $0.60”
So, it looks like her magic brain is back to work again, though I feel that she has rested it for a little too long. :() (ie. she has not been doing much academic work with me for the past 3 months or so).

Nic's logical thinking nvr ceases to amaze me. I hope she won't be bored with P1 syllabus, esp in Maths.
Her way of calculation is more simple and straight forward lah.
