Promotion to next grade!

Despite being a super tough nut when it comes to piano practice, Nicole surprised me when her teacher informed me that she would be promoted to the next grade in December 2008. That was an absolutely magnificent piece of news to my ears given that Nicole has only played for 4 months and she only practises twice a week for 15minutes each!

I must say I did put in a lot of " hard work" in nurturing her interest to practise. At one point, I really found it dreadful having to coach and guide her in her practice. It was indeed a "life-shortening"experience :( Nicole simply hated to practise though she has always enjoyed the lessons. Her fingers used be flat and "sleepy" when playing the keys but not anymore! She is now able to curl her little fingers nicely when she plays. It is indeed the most pleasing sight to my eyes!

Wow, she can curl her fingers at this age? Its really not an easy thing to do.

thank you all for praises and encouragement...ya...it took her quite a while to master it due to lack of practice...twice a week is really insufficient, in my opinion. Having said that, if Nicole wants to do it, she can master it quickly...

i guess most kids would enjoy the lesson but not the practice unfortunately...

ooops! seriously, I didn't think that was an issue at all, after reading so much of the clever Nicole....
she is one girl, who will do ALL things to prevent people from looking down on her... I wouldn't say she is a showoff, I would say this is her drive to strive and that is very good. my only concern is, when defeat really happens, will she try to do better NEXT TIME or will it put her down so much, she give it up...

hi angeline,

you have got a good point there...that is my biggest fear too...she is too prideful, she knows that she is ahead of her peers in many areas..

congratulations! your hard work has been paid off! I can imagine your joy! I think she should be put into some gifted class. ever thought of that?!

thanks again to all...

i guess Nicole needs a lot of praises and encouragement to do well..

gifted??hmmm....didnt really cross my mind though I do believe that Nicole is more advanced and mature than many of her peers..

In my simple mind, I would have imagined a gifted kid at her age would be reading novels and writing journals which she is not...hence, perhaps she is just slightly brighter?? haha...this mommy is afraid to keep up with a "gifted" child....as it is, I am challenged to the max everyday :)

Congrats to Nicole and mummy too! Marcus has just started playing piano, so we just started home practice this week. I can imagine the 'hard work' mummy has to put in. LOL!

Well done contentedmom. :)
