Work life balance

This would be my third week at work. So far things are looking fine. People are approachable generally. Lots of projects in the pipeline and I guess I just need to prioritise.

To-date, I am able to leave the office at decent hours but I do sign onto Blackberry at night after the kids are asleep just to get some work out of the way. I am happy with the arrangement. I still get to spend 1 to 1.5 hours with Ethan before he sleeps. Thereafter, it would be a 1 to 1 private session with Nicole.

Ethan has settled down nicely in his school and he enjoys being in the company of his friends. Though all in the same toddler class, Ethan is the youngest of all. The other 3 toddlers are reaching 30 months old and they are due to be promoted to N1 next January. They really dote on Ethan and treat him like a real baby :) I am thankful for it!

Hi - I blog-hopped from Mummy Gwen's blog. I must say that having a work life balance with 2 kids under the age 5 is tough especially when you are FTWM and I can totally relate to that even though I have only one tot. Btw, I'm also a tax consultant but with a big 4. My hubby used to work in AA Singapore from 1993 to 1996 - in tax and then transferred to audit. We are still working in the public practice in Malaysia and it is tough balancing work and time for your kid especially given the hours we work. I think it is great that you can still be home for your kids by 6.30pm - I'm still waiting for that day to come...

oh Hi Pinky...we share alot in common then...I started with Andersen Singapore and that's over a decade ago :( After some years in the workforce, I kinda learnt to balance work and family..and I made it clear to the boss before I signed on the dotted line :)...

Oh, in that case, I could be talking to you or hubby unknowingly on some of our malaysia projects :)

I will pop over to your blog soon...thanks for visiting..and stay cool ya? God bless

hi there my dear e friends,

things are indeed going well, praise the Lord! I think being thankful for every small thing helps in nurturing a positive mindset:)

Ethan did cry and whine on the first 3 days...but the frequency reduced over time..and he is happy to be at school now. Nicole went through the same process which led me to believe that it is a "usual process" for young kids going to school for the first time.

Hi Jaanvi,
I think this would be quite a choice if things do fall into the right places at the right time.

For me, the timing was really perfect. I declined many many job interviews which came much earlier cos Ethan was still too young to go to school then. The market was really going strong then. On average, I got 3 to 5 calls from the headhunters every week. You can imagine how aggressive they were. Not until this one came about, then only I started to seriously consider it with lots of prayers. To me, I needed to settle the kids first before I would move back to the workforce and again by God's grace, the kids settled in well and I get plenty of domestic help at home. All these factors helped me to transition back to full time work,as the Lord has so planned for.

Have you been looking out? Who is going to look after your little one? going to school? If you find peace with whatever the arrangement is, then I would say go ahead! Keep me posted ya?..God bless

Hi Contented mom, working at home can be fun as well being near your kids same time.
Your kids are adorable.
You keep well and have fun, Lee.

You start working already?! It's good that you can keep work and life balanced! However, I have been very lucky to work in a very flexible environment, so even as a manager I could still leave work everyday at 5pm to pick Serena up from childcare. :) It would be hard to find after I move back to Sydney! :(
